On May 26th signing of the memorandum of understanding between Ural Federal University and the University of Piraeus took place in Athens.
The document has been signed by the UrFU rector Victor Koksharov and his Greek college Nikolaos Georgopoulos in the presence of the President of Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the Greek Prime-Minister Alexis Tsipras.
In the morning of the same day there was a meeting between V. Koksharov and N. Georgopoulos that took place at the Piraeus University. During this meeting the rectors discussed the possibility of academic exchanges and future research collaboration of Russian and Greek Universities.
The Rector of Ural Federal University said that “the very beginning of such collaboration and its foundation is the joint research and cooperation on the BRICS studies issues”.
As a matter of fact, University of Peraeus is a home for a BRICS studies centre, similar to one we have at UrFU. For the moment it is the main focal point for the cooperation between our universities.
Russian Delegation lead by V. Putin stayed in Greece for several days. Several very important economic and cultural documents were signed during the visit.
The University of Piraeus was established in 1938 first as an Industrial School of the city of Piraeus. In 1945 it got the name of the Higher School of Industrial Studies. Its current name the University obtained in 1989.
